Cuba
Although I haven’t danced in a few years, I love salsa dancing - especially casino style to some great timba. Before the 2020 pandemic, I spent a couple weeks in Cuba to study Cuban dancing.
While there, I was fascinated by the Cubanos’ ability to do what they can to enjoy life despite the deteriorated condition their country is in. I could see this best in their music, whether it was timba, son, rumba, guaracha, reggaeton, or the dozens of other flavors that still guide their steps through daily life.
Walking along the malecón in Havana one afternoon, I had envisioned this festive scene. Finally brought it to life after this backplate had been locked away forgotten on my hard drive.
If you would like to take a trip to Cuba and learn to dance, I highly suggest checking out Rueda Con Ritmo. I danced with them for a couple of years and their a solid bunch. They normally take at least a couple trips to Cuba each year.
